In our first episode, we’re sharing the incredible journey of a Benda rider, Zu, and his Starry Grey Chinchilla500, as they ride along the iconic China 318 Highway to Lhasa, Tibet.
The 318 Highway is one of the most famous and adventurous roads in China. It connects the city of Chengdu in Sichuan Province to Lhasa, the capital of Tibet, offering a breathtaking journey through diverse landscapes. Riders and travelers on this route will encounter rugged mountain ranges, steep cliffs, and deep gorges, with the road passing through some of the highest altitudes in the world. The highway’s challenging terrain and extreme weather conditions, including snow, rain, and high-altitude thin air, make it a true test of both endurance and skill.
For Zu, an illustrator, life used to be confined by tedious office work. While he is now a well-known motorcycle traveler. In just six months, Zu has ridden over 17,000 kilometers on his Chinchilla500, with half of that distance dedicated to motorcycle touring. Along the way, Zu visited the Potala Palace in Lhasa and experienced the stunning beauty of Namtso Lake in Tibet.
“The most beautiful scenery I saw on the way was when I reached Namtso Lake. It felt like the sky and the lake merged into one. The blue connected perfectly. In the distance, there were snow-capped mountains…” Zu reflects.
Life was once limited, but on a motorcycle, there’s always a sense of freedom. “On a motorcycle trip, you meet all kinds of people, discover diverse landscapes, and experience unforgettable moments,” Zu shares, reflecting on the transformation since he began his journey with the Chinchilla500. “The brave enjoy the world first!”
